Code of Ethics and Guidelines
I adhere to the code of ethics and guidelines set up by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), the British Psychological Society (BPS) and the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
Information and details of sessions may be shared in the context of clinical supervision without any identifying information. However there are situations where confidentiality may have to be broken including any injuries or harm that may occur to you or another; any risk involving the case of child abuse; and any information about an act of terrorism that has been disclosed. If circumstances allow, I will always inform and discuss the issue of confidentiality with you first if confidentiality is going to be broken.
Generic professional practice guidelines published by the British Psychological Society (BPS) specify that the best practice for psychologists is to share limited and an agreed amount of information with other health professionals e.g. a client’s General Practitioner (GP). This aims to promote the safety and protection of the client and the public, in order to carry out the duty of care for the benefits of clients. This is one of the reasons why GP details are requested at the beginning of therapy and this will be discussed and explained in more detail during the first session. However, if you do not wish me to share any information with your GP, in most cases it will be honoured except in circumstances where you disclose information about harming yourself or others, and in situations where perceived risks are involved. In such circumstances I will need to communicate with your GP or other relevant sectors. Furthermore, if in any case, you wish me to share your information with other health professionals, I will ask you to sign an agreement for my disclosure of your information to others.
Length of Sessions
Each individual and couple therapy session lasts for 50 minutes, and each group session lasts for 90 minutes. The frequency and the number of sessions will be discussed and agreed with you during an initial consultation.
Extra time can be added to the end of the session if I am late, therefore full 50/90 minutes session will be delivered. However if you are late for the session, extra time cannot be added.
Cancellation of sessions
In the case of cancellation and alteration of sessions, 48 hours’ notice before the date of your session is required, otherwise the full session will still be charged. Cancellation can be accomplished by sending an email or text to me using the contact details shown on the right.
Before the couple sessions begin, each partner will be offered an individual session. Once couple therapy begins, each couple session will only begin when both partners are present.
Each group session will begin on time as scheduled, a group member will not be able to join the group therapy session if he/she is late by more than 15 minutes after the session begins.
I am available to work with psychology, psychotherapy or counselling trainees/students in different capacities – as a clinical supervisor, an academic consultant/a research supervisor for MSc and Doctorate Trainees, and a personal therapist.
